Welcome to bit1 learning, operated by mergebits ("us", "we", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website or use our application.
We are committed to protecting the privacy of all our users, with a special focus on safeguarding the data of children who use our platform for 11+ exam preparation.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the platform:
- Parent/Guardian Information: Name, email address, password, and payment information (processed securely via third-party processors).
- Student Information: Pseudonymous display names, birth year/month (to tailor educational content), and performance data related to practice tests and games.
- Usage Data: Automatically collected information including IP addresses, browser types, and interaction metrics to improve our services.
3. Children's Privacy
Protecting children's privacy is our highest priority. We comply with relevant data protection laws including the UK GDPR and the Age Appropriate Design Code.
- We do not collect personal contact information directly from children.
- Student accounts must be created and linked by a verified parent or guardian.
- We do not use children's data for marketing or behavioral advertising.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve the bit1 platform.
- To generate personalized learning reports and adaptive question difficulty.
- To communicate with parents regarding student progress and account status.
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues.
5. Free Games
Our free games at bit1learning.com/free-games can be played without an account. Here is what they store and why.
- On your device only: scores, progress, daily puzzle results, unlocked rewards and, if you type one, your child's first name for the on-screen report. This is kept in your browser's local storage, is never sent to us, and is removed if you clear your browser data.
- On our servers, only if a parent or carer unlocks the bonus levels: confirmation that you are the parent or carer and 18 or over, the date you confirmed it, whether you agreed to hear from us and when, the privacy policy version you saw, which game you were playing, the type of device, and where you came from (for example a link from our Instagram page). We never collect your child's name, age or school.
- Your email address: we keep it only if you tick "Send me free 11+ tips and news". If you don't tick that box, we don't store your email at all; we keep a scrambled (one-way hashed) version so we can tell if the same person signs up again. If you later untick the box, we delete the email and keep only that scrambled record so we never contact you by mistake.
- Why: to unlock the bonus levels and score report, to understand which of our posts bring families to the games, and, only if you agreed, to send you 11+ tips and news. We do not send any emails from the free games today, and we never share or sell your email.
- How long: if you agreed to hear from us, we keep your details for 24 months after your last visit to the unlock form, then delete them automatically. Other records are also deleted automatically after 24 months.
- Your rights: you can ask us to see or delete your data at any time by emailing hello@bit1learning.com. We will respond within one month.
The free games have no adverts, no chat and no public leaderboards, and children are never asked for personal information. Analytics cookies are only used if you accept them in our cookie banner.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures, including encryption and secure server hosting, to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
